For nearly 50 years, Mountain House products have been the first choice for backpacking and camping, as well as emergency and food storage needs. Our foods are shelf-stable and can be easily prepared with just boiling water.
How to prepare your Mountain House Beef Stew Meal Pouch:
1. Open package at tear notch. Remove and discard oxygen absorber.*
2. Carefully add 1 3/4 cups (414ml) boiling water.
3. Stir carefully and close zipper. Optional: After 4 minutes stir again.
4. Let stand 8-9 minutes. Stir and enjoy right out of the pouch!
*If you forget to remove oxygen absorber before adding water, don't worry. Your food is still safe to eat. Simply remove and discard absorber.

What is the shelf life of Mountain House Pouches?
From Mountain House themselves:
"Based on our ongoing sensory and nutrition testing of actual Mountain House products, we’ve raised the shelf-life on our pouches to 30 years!"
Remember that we recommend storing your pouches unopened and avoid prolonged exposure to temperatures above 75° (24°C) to maximize shelf life.
Do not open until you are ready to use. It is necessary to store Mountain House products properly to ensure maximum shelf life. Store the product in a cool area, avoid long-term storage above 75°F/24°C, and be careful to not puncture the pouches. Under these conditions, Mountain House meals will maintain its shelf life for product quality, flavour and nutritional value. Once opened you can increase your shelf life by vacuum packing any unused portions or rehydrating all the product and freezing unused portions.
Our food items are filled by weight and not by volume. Some settling may occur during shipping and this is normal. We do our best to fill packages full, please understand that we have standard pack sizes, and a wide variety of items to fit.
