How to use the Kelly Kettle®

The Kelly Kettle® is easy to use. We recommend that you follow the following five steps when using your Kettle:

To begin, remove the fire base from the bottom of the kettle and place the base on level ground – flat side down.

1. Remove protective cork from kettle and fill kettle with water. Do not replace the cork - the water spout must be free from ALL obstructions when the kettle is in use. (Note: If you do not need to carry water in the kettle, we recommend that the Cork be removed entirely from the kettle as this will ensure that the kettle is not misused)

2. Fill the base with combustible material such as newspaper, dry grass or very small tinder. Then place the kettle securely on the base.

3. Light fire through the hole(s) in side of the base and face the hole(s) into the wind for extra draught.

4. Insert additional fuel through the chimney (use small twigs or Pine cones for best results).

5. When the water boils, hold the handle at a 90° angle to the body of the Kettle – then lift Kettle clear of the base. Use handle and chain for pouring. If additional boiling water is required, simply refill the kettle, place it back on the fire base and refuel the chimney again!
NOTE:
Always remove the cork before lighting the kettle. The cork is only to be used for transporting cold water.
Boiling the kettle with ANY obstruction in the water spout can result in a serious burn for the user or others in close proximity.
Never hold the handle above the chimney when the kettle is lit as it can result in a burn for the user.
Always keep children away from the kettle when in use.
Use surplus water to extinguish fire.

Kelly Kettle users have described their kettles as the "Greatest Invention of all Time".

Cost-Free, Carbon-Neutral, Eco Friendly Camping at its Very Best!

Note: The fire bases invert partially up into the bottom of our kettles to make the unit as compact as possible for transport and storage.

History

The Kelly family in Ireland pioneered the development of the Kelly Kettle and now, for over 100 years, the unique Kelly Kettle has made boiling water in the outdoors quick and easy even in extreme weather conditions. Any natural fuel can be used to burn and create the fire which will quickly bring the water in the kettle to a roiling boil. Since only natural fuel is used you don’t have to worry about carrying gas or batteries or other types of fuel with you. Safe and easy to use, the Kelly Kettle will be one of your most used and valued pieces of camping gear.

Kelly Kettles have become popular for a variety of reasons with different groups of outdoor enthusiasts.

Camping: If you are camping and just want a convenient quick way to heat up your water for hydrating food, a cup of coffee or for personal use, the Base Camp Large Kelly Kettle is great. It will deliver about 7 cups of hot water in just a few minutes. Your camping gear will not be complete without a Kelly Kettle.

Emergency Preparedness and Survival Use:The Kelly Kettles are an essential element of any emergency preparedness plan since in an emergency or disaster situation the most important part of survival is being able to obtain pure water. Without access to other types of fuel such as gas or propane, it may be difficult to get pure water. Since the Kelly Kettle uses only natural fuels, in a disaster you most likely will still have access to ample natural fuel in order to boil and purify water for drinking, cooking and personal hygiene.
